Zaatar Speech Collection - Arabic as a Second Language (Adults)

What is the project about?

The purpose of this project is to improve the functionality of Arabic voice recognition technologies used in educational platforms. We are looking for a wide variety of Arabic speakers, both adults and minors, with various Arabic accents, including speakers that have learned or studied Arabic as a second language in school, universities, or by living in an Arabic speaking environment.

Each participant, adult or minor, will need to record a series of sentences in Arabic, using our mobile application, DataForce Contribute. The selected candidates will be provided with the project guidelines, the scripts that need to be read, and instructions on how to download and use our app.

Who is eligible?

To participate you should meet the following qualifying criteria:  

Adults:  

- Be over 18 years old.  

- Have a smartphone device to download our app and use it for recording.  

- Have learned or studied Arabic and are able to read sentences written in Arabic, with Arabic characters.  

Note that we are running this project for all Arabic accents, if in fact you are a native Arabic speaker, kindly check our website for the rest of the accents needed. You can also write to DataForce.Sourcing@transperfect.com if you want to get the registration link(s) for other Arabic accents.

Children (to be registered separately):

- Be 7 to 17 years old

- Have learned or studied Arabic and can read sentences written in Arabic with Arabic characters. The parents/legal guardians can help.  

For this project we are looking for participants in specific demographic groups to help develop bias free technology that would represent everyone. To assess your accent, we will ask you to upload a short sample voice recording at the end of this application form. 

Where is the project taking place?

This is a fully remote project. You can participate from the comfort of your home.

How long does it take?

The project tasks are estimated to take up to 1.5 hours in total.

How much is the compensation for the participation in this project?

Adults: $27 USD  

Children aged 7 to 17 years: $36 USD  

Payment method and payment terms depend on your country of residence.

- If your selected payment method is PayPal, the payment will be received within 10-15 business days after acceptance of your delivery (For countries which can receive payments via PayPal).

- If your selected payment method is Wire Transfer, the payment will be received within 14-17 business days after acceptance of your delivery. Please note that you may incur transfer fees from your bank. Only available for payments that exceed $50 USD (For all countries where Wire Transfer is available except for Thailand, India, Mexico, Korea, Japan which have different payment terms – see below).

- If your selected payment method is Wire Transfer, the payment will be received within 20-30 business days after acceptance of your delivery (For Thailand, India, Mexico, Korea, Japan).

- If your selected payment method is Check, the payment will be received within 10-15 business days after acceptance of your delivery (only for the USA).

- If your selected payment method is Gift Card, the electronic gift card will be sent to you via email within 5-10 business days after acceptance of your delivery. Please note that our Quality Assurance team will review all submissions to ensure they meet the project specific requirements. Compensation will be provided for the recordings that pass the quality checks.
