Zaatar Speech Collection - Levantine Arabic Speakers (Minors)

What is the project about?

The purpose of this project is to improve the functionality of Arabic voice recognition technologies used in educational platforms. We are looking for a wide variety of Arabic speakers with various accents, both adults and children.

Each child will need to record a series of sentences in Arabic, using our mobile application, DataForce Contribute. The parents/legal guardians will be provided with the project guidelines, the scripts that need to be read, and instructions on how to download and use our app.

Who is eligible?

To participate your children should meet the following qualifying criteria: 

- Be 7 to 17 years old.  

- Native speaker of Arabic with Levantine accent, located in Jordan, Lebanon, or Palestine.

- The parent/legal guardian of the child(ren) needs to register the child(ren), sign the Parental Consent Form and have a smartphone device to download our app and use it for recording.

Note that we are running this project for all Arabic accents, if their accent is not a Levantine, kindly check our website for the rest of the accents needed. You can also write to DataForce.Sourcing@transperfect.com if you want to get the registration link(s) for other Arabic accents. 

For this project we are looking for participants in specific demographic groups to help develop bias free technology that would represent everyone. To assess the accent of your child(ren), we will ask you to upload short sample voice recordings at the end of this application form.  

Where is the project taking place?

This is a fully remote project. Your children can participate from the comfort of your home.

How long does it take?

The task is estimated to take up to 1.5 hours in total and consists of three sessions. 

How much is the compensation for the participation in this project?

- Children aged 7 to 12 years
There will be 3 sessions to be recorded, each session will take up to 30 minutes and it will be compensated with $18 USD. If the child is completing all 3 sessions, the total payment will be $54 USD, but the sessions can be compensated separately as well. E.g., if the child only completes 2 sessions, the amount paid will be $36 USD

- Children aged 13 to 17 years
There will be 3 sessions to be recorded, each session will take up to 30 minutes and it will be compensated with $15 USD. If the minor is completing all 3 sessions, the total payment will be $45 USD, but the sessions can be compensated separately as well. E.g., if the minor only completes 2 sessions, the amount paid will be $30 USD.

Please note that our Quality Assurance team will review all submissions to ensure they meet the project specific requirements. Compensation will be provided for the recording sessions that pass the quality check.

For Lebanon we only have Wire Transfer. For Jordan we have PayPal, Gift Card and Wire Transfer. For Palestine we only have Gift Card.

Please note that wire transfers are available only for payments that exceed $50 USD, so you will only be able to select wire transfer if you participate along with a minor.
