What is the project about?

The purpose of this project is to improve speech recognition technology for educational settings. By collecting natural speech from children, we’re helping make voice assistants more accurate and effective for classroom use.

Task Description:

With your help, your child(ren) will:

• Read a short passage aloud.
• Answer a few fun and engaging questions about what they read, just like they would in school!  
• Have their responses recorded using our easy-to-use mobile app.

Why participate?

The recordings your child(ren) provides will directly contribute to improving speech technology for students everywhere. It’s a simple way to make a real difference and have a little fun along the way!

Who is eligible?

To participate you should meet the following qualifying criteria:

• Be over 18 years old.  
• Be the legal guardian of the child(ren) you are registering and sign the Parental Consent Form. 
• Have a smartphone device to download our app and use it for recording.

Each child you register should meet the following qualifying criteria:

• Be in the 2nd or 3rd grade (typically between ages 7-9).
• Be a resident of the United States.
• Be a native speaker of English (US).

Where is the project taking place?

This is a fully remote project. You can participate from the comfort of your home.

How long does it take?

This project consists of 3 tasks. Each task includes:

• Reading 1 short passage
• Recording 3 responses to questions about this passage

We estimate it will take up to 45 minutes in total to participate (approx. 15 minutes for the parent/guardian to go through the project guidelines and up to 30 minutes for each child(ren) to complete the 3 tasks.)

Partial submissions are also allowed (1 or 2 tasks out of 3). The first task will take up to 25 minutes (approx. 15 minutes for the parent/guardian to go through the project guidelines and around 10 minutes for each child to complete 1 task), and the following 2 tasks should take about 10 minutes each.

How much is the compensation?

You will receive $20 USD for each completed and approved task.

For 1 task, submitted and approved, the compensation is $20 USD.
For 2 tasks, submitted and approved, the compensation is $40 USD.
Complete all 3 tasks, all the 9 recordings and earn a total of $70 USD! That means there's a $10 USD bonus for going all the way!

Please note that all recordings will be reviewed by our Quality Assurance team to ensure they meet the project requirements. Compensation will be provided only for fully completed and approved tasks.
